I mean the models on the catwalk are nothing like us plus size gals. So how do we translate what they wear to what would still look good on us.
Black is in. (Slimming color. Great for any big woman with cool skin tones). Jewel tones are in. So are animal prints. So are metallics. Notice a trend? This happens every winter so go for these colors and you would have something fresh to wear every winter. Pick classics that you would wear every year and infuse your personal style by wearing only what looks good on you.
Be careful with metallics though as they make you look bigger. Save metallics for shoes, handbags and accessories. Not the belt. Go for a thick dark belt for a slimmer waist.
Which brings us to the first winter essential.
1. A thick dark belt with a stunning buckle
Get a belt that is absolutely gorgeous and which fits you. A wide belt would be better for plus size women as a skinny belt looks too wishy washy. That belt can transform any dress you wear, spice up your jeans or skirts or even your coat. A dark wide belt would make your waist look smaller while shiny metallic belts make your waist look bigger. Get a black or dark belt with a stunning buckle.
2. Thermal underwear.
In winter, it gets really cold. Thermal underwear locks in the heat so you don't have to wear that many layers to keep warm. Extra layers add extra bulk which is the last thing you want. Great thermal underwear under the slimmest jeans you can wear and under that curve hugging sweater would make a great winter outfit.
3. A figure hugging sweater.
If you've got it, flaunt it. Show your curves via a figure hugging sweater. Think of the sweater girls in the 1940s and 1950s. Go for a jewel toned sweater.
4. A black dress knee length or longer
Hey, black is in. Black on black is in. Black looks great with metallic accessories that you can take and black is slimming. This is one classic you can wear year after year, season after season. Avoid anything voluminous would make you look fat, so go for a sleek black dress that skims your curves. Or one slighly loose you can belt to define your waist. One of these plus size black dresses would be ideal.
5. A pair of new plus size jeans.
A pair of jeans cut to flatter your figure is something you can wear through all seasons. In winter, that pair of jeans would keep you warm if you wear thermal long pants underneath.
6. Black wool tights. Make them wool and super warm. A pair you can wear under your dress and not freeze to death.
7. Womens plus size wool coats - Get at least one new coat in a color that really flatters you. Belt it or get one that curves in at your waist or a more flattering look. This is a practical winter classic that you would wear year after year, and it can easily hide those extra pounds you've gained during the holiday season.
